Viktor Axelsen clinched the men’s singles title at the Indonesia Masters on Sunday, beating Taiwan’s Chou Tien-chen in straight sets

Viktor Axelsen of Denmark won the men’s singles title at the Indonesia Masters on Sunday, defeating Chou Tien-chen of Taiwan in straight sets. In a 41-minute encounter in Jakarta’s Istora sporting arena, the world number one defeated Chou 21-10, 21-12.

“I adore playing in Istora, and I’ve always wanted to win a tournament there.” “It’s a legendary theatre, so to have done it is something very significant to me,”

Axelsen, who is 28 years old, told reporters.

Axelsen won after defeating Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, a home  favourite, in the semi-finals.

Chen Yufei of China defeated Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon in the women’s singles to earn her first championship since winning gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

In a 74-minute three-set match, she defeated Ratchanok, the 2020 Indonesia Masters women’s champion, 21-16, 18-21, 21-15.

Chen advanced to the final after defeating compatriot He Bingjiao in the semi-finals 21-17, 21-14.

Following the Indonesia Masters, the Indonesia Open will begin on June 14 and go until June 19.

After nearly three years without live audiences in the Indonesian capital owing to the coronavirus pandemic, badminton enthusiasts were looking forward to the back-to-back events.
