India vs SA 2nd T20: Sunil Gavaskar slams Rishabh Pant`s side after loss, says `Team India don`t have wicket-taking bowlers

Key Highlights

• In the second T20I encounter between India and South Africa, India loses by four wickets for the second time in a row.

• The former legendary cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar slams the Indian captain questioning him about his bowling side and promoting less experienced players in the crucial overs.

Former famous cricketer Sunil Gavaskar slams Rishabh Pant, the current captain of Team India, for his decisions made during the 2nd T20I against the proteas.

Mr. Gavaskar questioned why the team are not having wicket taking bowlers except for who was outstanding in the innings, taking four wickets.

“The major problem is the fact that they don’t have wicket-taking bowlers in this squad apart from Bhuvneshwar Kumar. So, you take wickets and then you get the opposition under pressure. So, in both the matches, did anybody look like getting a wicket apart from Bhuvneshwar Kumar? He was getting the ball to move. That is the issue which is the reason why a total of 211 was something that they could not defend,”

Mr. Gavaskar

According to our research, Mr. Gavaskar’s question to the losing captain, Rishabh Pant, was simply to point out that if Bhuveneshwar Kumar can make the ball move, then why do we have so many bowlers? Probably, he was hinting towards getting Umran Malik in action for his swing and good line and length. For your information, Mr. Gavaskar was one the few who noticed the Kashmiri Talent, Umran Malik for his speed and wicket taking abilities and was very much impressed by the bowler.

Umran has been selected in his maiden call to play for the Indian national team.  Indian national team in the ongoing T2O series between India and South Africa.
Mr. Gavaskar’s second question was about promoting Axal Patel (all-rounder) ahead of Dinesh Karthik, who is considerably more experienced and in form and could have played some significant innings if he was sent to the crease on time.

“Definitely (Karthik should have come in ahead of Axar), there’s no question about it. Sometimes, there are labels that you’re a finisher so you tend to think that he is going to come only after the 15th over or thereabout, ‘you can’t come in the 12th or 13th over’. And we have seen this happen in the IPL as well, a lot of teams have kept some of their big-hitters only for the last 4-5 overs when actually they can be sent in earlier as they have the ability to work the ball around,”

Mr. Gavaskar

Definitely, the issues posed by the former cricketers appear to be in the team’s favour,  which probably Rishabh Pant hasn’t been able to address.
Well, India Vs. South Africa’s third T20 match is going to be held tomorrow i.e., on June 14, 2022 at ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This match is crucial for India because if they lose it, South Africa would officially win the series, and the following two matches will be meaningless for India.
