Women’s Asia Cup 2022: India beats Bangladesh by 59 runs, Shafali Verma shines

India women defeated Bangladesh women by 59 runs in the Women’s Asia Cup 2022 match at Sylhet International Stadium on Saturday. Opening to bat, Shafali Verma (55 off 44 balls) smashed a brilliant half-century. The 18-year-old all-rounder further took India to victory while picking two wickets in the second inning.

Shafali stitched a 96-run partnership off 72 balls with Captain Smriti Mandhana (47 off 38 balls). Later, Jemimah Rodrigues’s unbeaten35 off 24 balls powered India to post 159/5 in 20 overs. For Bangladesh, Rumana Ahmed took three wickets for 27 in 3 overs.

In response, Bangladesh women succumbed before India women bowlers and managed only 100/7 in 20 overs.Nigar Sultan (36 off 29 balls) was the highest scorer from their side.For India, Deepti Sharma also picked 2 wickets, while fast bowler Renuka Singh, and Sneh Rana got one wicket each.

Shafali Verma bagged the player of the match award for her 55 off 44 balls and two wickets.
