The former cricketer and now turned commentator cum analyst, Virendra Sehwag feels that Rohit Sharma can be relieved from the role of T20I captaincy role. The reason being stated by the former cricketer on the Sony sports channel, he said that the relieving from duties has been given to the player due to injuries and the work load management.

He expressed that the relieve from duties, would give the cricketer time and to focus on the rest formats such as the ODI as well as the test formats.

“Two, once someone new is appointed as captain in T20s, it would also allow Rohit to take breaks and rejuvenate himself to lead India in both Tests and ODIs, he said in an interaction arranged by Sony Sports, the official broadcaster of the India-England series”

However, the former Indian swashbuckling player, Virender Sehwag said that if the think-tank (BCCI Management) is willing to pursue the same policy of having sole captain across all formats then the Rohit can be an ideal option always but if the policy needs change like different captains for different formats, then Sehwag has his own set of three players in mind which includes the likes of Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul. He said,

“India has options aplenty when it comes to hard hitters in T20’s. However, I would personally vouch for Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul, as the top three batters for the world cup in Australia”

But if there’s anybody else the former cricketer has been showering praise upon is the youngster from the beautiful valleys of Kashmir, Umran Malik who’s skills and talents has landed him a place inside the team blue against the Ireland in the first T20I. On the young cricketer Umran Malik, Sehwag said,

“If there is one pacer who has thoroughly impressed me, of late, it is none other than Umran Malik. He should be definitely be part of India’s plans as one of the key bowlers alongside the likes of Jasprit’s Bumrah and Mohammed Shami”

Currently talking about fate of Rohit Sharma, he has again been hit by another in the form of COVID and has been kept isolated in his hotel. In his absence, Mayank Agrawal has been called up to take his place in the fifth test against England starting from July 1st till 5th.
