World Badminton’s seeded No.9 Prannoy continued his hot streak as he recovered from a slump in game two and a 21-17, 19-21, 21-17 win over championship silver medalist Shi Yu in the first round Qi World Cup 2018 won Men’s Singles. Badminton star Indian HS Prannoy defeated All-England Championship finalist Shi Yu Qi of China to collapse in the men’s singles pre-quarterfinals at the Swiss Open Super 300 badminton tournament here.(Read Also: World’s top 10 Badminton players till today)

Overall 14 Indians will fight for a place in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.  Two-time Olympic medalist and fourth-seeded PV Sindhu also got her title defense off to a positive start by defeating Jenjira Stadelmann of Switzerland 21-9, 21-16 in a one-sided opening round of women’s singles.

Prannoy next meets France’s Christo Popov, while Sindhu meets 20-year-old Indonesia’s Putri Kusuma Wardani, who was part of the gold-medal-winning team at the 2022 Asian Team Championships. Furthermore, on Thursday, Kidambi Srikanth will play against Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu.

National Champion Mithun Manjunath will take on Chinese Taipei’s Chia Hao Lee, and the men’s second seed Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will take on Taiwanese pairing Fang-Chih Lee and Fang-Jen Lee.

N. Sikki Reddy and Arathi Sara Sunil are India’s last hopes in women’s doubles after Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand was eliminated in the first round on Monday. Sikki Reddy will also play mixed doubles, partnering with Rohan Kapoor.
