Sanjay Manjrekar’s selection of the 15-man Indian team for the 2024 World Cup will spark debate and controversy. Obviously, the exclusion of stalwarts like Virat Kohli, along with Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya, from his 15-man T20 WC squad raised eyebrows in the cricket community. During his team selection program at Star Sports, Sanjay Manjrekar chose to exclude several star players like Rinku Singh and Shivam Dube, who were considered as strong contenders for a place in India’s 2024 T20 World Cup squad.

Sanjay Manjrekar’s controversial decision to drop Virat Kohli from his 15-team squad is causing a stir, especially considering Kohli’s impressive performance in the ongoing 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Despite leading the run chart and holding the Orange cap with a whopping 430 runs in 9 matches, the RCB legend did not find himself in Manjrekar’s Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2024.

Ahead of the 2024 T20 International, famous former cricketers including Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag, Irfan Patan and Ambati Rayudu have each revealed their respective 15-man squads for the ICC’s flagship tournament. However, none of them made the bold move to drop India’s cricket legend, Virat Kohli, from their selection.

Sanjay Manjrekar’s India team reshuffled the batting order, assigning Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson at the 3rd pivot position instead of Virat Kohli. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill did not care about the work.
