Australian bowler Pat Cummins takes a hat-trick against Bangladesh in the Super Eight match of the T20 World Cup 2024 in Antigua.

It was his first hat-trick in this World Cup and seventh overall in the tournament’s history.

Cummins became the second Australian after Brett Lee to earn an appearance in the Men’s T20 World Cup. Curtis Campher (a four-ball winner), Wanindu Hasaranga, Kagiso Rabada, Karthik Meiyappan, and Josh Little were the other bowlers who contributed hat-tricks at the event.

However, Cummins later admitted that he missed out on a hat-trick. He said: “I don’t know if I hit the hat. “I did the previous one, saw that it was going up on the screen, and when the next one came around, I completely forgot about it. I think Stoinis came in from deep [and] was clapping and everything that he each said: yes yes. So, it’s good.”

After going wicketless in the first over, Cummins claimed his hat-trick in the 18th and 20th overs. On the fifth ball of the 18th over, he made it into his mouth with a short delivery to stump Mahmudullah’s stumps. The next delivery was also a length ball from outside off which Mahedi Hasan tried to cut but managed to reach Adam Zampa at third.

When Cummins came on for the last of the innings, he started by going slow from outside off against the batsman Towhid Hridoy. Who collected the delivery at fine leg. The hat-trick saw Hridoy go for a 28-ball 40 as Mahmudullah’s sixth hat-trick in international cricket.

Cummins’ three wickets and Zampa’s 2 for 24 helped Australia restrict Bangladesh to 140 for 8. Australia were in charge of their chase from David Warner with a half-century before rain stopped the match eventually declaring Australia a victory by 28 runs under the DLS system.
