Manjunath upsets Srikanth, Sindhu too wins in Singapore Open

A big difference came to view on the first day of Singapore Badminton Championship. The 77th BWF ranking player, Mithun Manjunath upsets Srikanth Kidambi, the BWF 11th ranking Badminton player who has won the Bronze Medal in World Championship. Whereas, PV Sindhu, the two times Olympic medal winner in woman singles has also qualified for the second session of tournament.

Manjunath made a wonder around the Badminton world after beating BWF 11th ranking champion Srikanth on Tuesday. The big difference came to view on starting day of Singapore Open Championship.  Manjunath defeated his nationhood opponent in two sets off three set match with 21-17, 15-21, 21-18 in men’s singles.

          Manjunath, who had qualified for ‘Orleans Masters’ super 100 Tournaments in April this year, has taken over on Srinath in the battle of first session of open championship. A tough battle went up to one hour. Srinath, earlier Olympic medal winner was not to surrender as 77th ranking player was giving him tough challenge in the court. Finally he lost the first set of math with 21-17. But in the further set he has taken revenge with 15-21 from Manjunath, a dwarf player before him as comparison to world ranking list.

          In-spite of having the taste of defeat in second set, as top Badminton Champion was before him, Manjunath has not given up and he defeated him again with 21-18. Following this, the 24 years old Badminton professional qualified for second round of the open championship. The Indian Star Chaliha Asmita also qualified for next round in woman’s single group as she has beaten Thai player Busanan Ongbamrungphan with the score 21-16, 21-11.

          Now Manjunath is set face Nhat Nguyen, an Ireland Badminton Professional in next round of the championship. Whereas, who has defeated Lianne Tan, the Belgium Badminton Star with 21-15, 21-11 will fight against Vietnam’s Thui Clinch in next round.
