Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul praised former Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni ahead of the IPL 2024 clash between the two teams at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Friday April 19.

Dhoni is one of the most successful captains in international cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 42-year-old led the Indian team to victory in the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy, making him the first and only captain till date to win three ICC titles.

In the IPL, MS Dhoni is the most successful captain alongside former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma, with five IPL titles. Dhoni is also the most successful IPL captain in terms of number of wins as he has 133 wins in 226 matches as captain.

Speaking to Star Sports, KL Rahul said that MS Dhoni is a special person for all of India because of his contribution to Indian cricket. While reminiscing about his special time with the former Indian captain, the LSG skipper said receiving the first hat-trick of any form from Dhoni would be a milestone.

” MS Dhoni is obviously a special person for the whole country.

A special moment with him was when I received caps for Tests, ODIs and T20Is from Dhoni and would receive wishes on top and special moments from him. Playing with him will remain a special memory for me,” said Rahul. MS Dhoni retired from international cricket in August 2020. His last appearance in the Indian jersey was in the semi-final of the 2019 ODI World Cup, where the Men in Blue defeated New Zealand. After retiring from international cricket, Dhoni continued to play for CSK in the IPL.

Ahead of IPL 2024, MS Dhoni pulled off a big surprise by stepping down as CSK captain and handing over the baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad. The wicketkeeper-batsman is expected to draw the curtain on his professional career when the IPL season continues.
