Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Australian pacer Glenn Maxwell on Monday decided to take an indefinite leave of absence from the ongoing 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign.
Maxwell said he is taking a break from the ongoing competition due to mental and physical fatigue. Maxwell said he told Faf du Plessis and the team’s coaches after his last game that he felt it was time to give someone else a chance.
Critics have targeted Glenn Maxwell, who performed well in the 2023 World Cup, for his poor batting style in the IPL, and he was also omitted from the RCB 11 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) led by Pat Cummins. The Australian all-rounder has not impressed with his bat this season as he has scored just 32 runs in 6 matches.
I went to see Faf (du Plessis) and the coaches after the last game and told them it would be time to try someone else. I’ve been in this situation before you play and dig yourself into a hole. I think it’s the best time to give myself some mental and physical rest and get my body back in order. If I’m going to compete during the tournament, I hope I can return to a strong and physical mindset where I can still feel,” Maxwell told reporters at a press conference.
He stated that RCB faces a big problem once their energy is exhausted, which has been their main strength in the last two seasons. The Australian traveler went on to say that he doesn’t give gifts in the right way and therefore thought it was time to give someone else a chance.
“We had a pretty big gap right after the power play, which has been my main strength the last two years. I feel like I’m not contributing in a good way right off the bat, and with the results and situation we find ourselves on the table, I think it’s the right time to give someone else a chance to showcase your product. but I hope that someone will make this place their own,” he said.
