KL Rahul rules out himself from the IPL season and the WTC final

Lucknow Super Giants skipper and India batter KL Rahul has ruled himself out of the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season and the ICC World Test Championship final against Australia. Rahul sustained an injury against Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 1 (Monday). He will now undergo thigh surgery. Rahul confirmed the development in a lengthy Instagram post. In his absence, Krunal Pandya will captain the Lucknow franchise. He did the same thing against CSK in their most recent game.

After careful consideration and consultation with the medical team, I have determined that I will undergo surgery on my thigh in the coming weeks. My main focus will be on my rehabilitation and recovery. My decision is difficult, but I am confident it will ensure a full recovery.

As the team captain, it pains me deeply not to be able to be there during this crucial period. But, I’m confident that the boys will rise to the occasion and give their finest performance as always. I’ll cheer for them from the sidelines with you all, watching every game. @lucknowsupergiants

Gutted that I won’t be at the Oval next month with Team India. I’ll do everything I can to get back in the blue and help my country. That has always been my focus and priority. @indiancricketteam

I feel compelled to express appreciation towards those who’ve been instrumental in helping me cope with recent events – specifically, that’s everyone from supportive fans who’ve shown tremendous care for me during these trying times all throughout LSG management and the BCCI officials who acted promptly when needed most, not forgetting loyal teammates whose unwavering faith has kept me buoyed up when things get tough! Please understand that your encouragement means everything at present as nothing is more reassuring than receiving positive messages while convalescing at home! Count on me keeping everyone posted regularly regarding recovery updates as well; naturally looking forward eagerly & determinedly toward reemerging stronger than ever eventually.

Rahul is also part of the Indian team for next month’s World Test Championship final against Australia. There will be a replacement for the wicketkeeper batter named soon by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
