India defeated Hong Kong by 40 runs in the final match of group A at Dubai International Stadium on Wednesday, and qualified for the super 4 round of the Asia Cup 2022. Suryakumar Yadava’s stormingknock (68 off 26 balls) and Virat Kohli’s brilliant half-century (59 off 44 balls) helped India to score 192/2 in 20 overs after which Hong Kong choked to chase the too high score and managed only 152/5 in all 20 overs. Babar Hayat (41 35 balls) scored highest from the Hong Kong side. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, and Avesh Khan each picked one wicket.

Hong Kong won and decided to bowl first, KL Rahul and Indian skipper Rohit Sharma opened to bat and gave India a quick start, but Sharma catch out at the team’s 38, and his 21 off 13 balls on the 5th ball of the fifth over. Then, Virat Kohli came to bat and he took India to continue as in start, but after a few minutes, Rahul was also out at the team’s 94 and managed his own 36 of 39 balls. Thereafter, Suryakumar Yadav joined Virat and stunned Hong Kong’s bowlers.

Both Indian batters completed half-century, and scored 98 runs as a partnership, and helped India to raise a big target of 192/2 in 20 overs for newcomer opposition.Yadav hit 6 fours and 6 huge sixes, while Kohli hit 3 sixes and 1 four during bating.

While chasing the target, Hong Kong lost their first wicket in the start of the inning at 12, but Babar Hayat, the third number batter handled his team and scored (41 off 35) including 2 sixes and 3 fours. After losing the second wicket of captain Nizakat Khan, Kinchit Shah came to bat and hit 30 runs off 28 balls. Thereafter, Zeeshan Ali (26 off 17 balls not out) played with Scott McKechnie till the end as they managed only 152/5 in 20 overs.

For the astonishing knock (68 off 26 balls; not out), Suryakumar Yadav bagged the player of the match award.
