ICC rankings: R Ashwin is the 2nd in bowling, Jadeja enters the top 10

Ravichandran Ashwin grabs second place in the ICC rankings. His companion Ravindra Jadeja jumped seven among the top 10 bowlers in the rearmost ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings issued in Dubai on Wednesday. Ravindra Jadeja has progressed to the ninth position after his 10-gate match haul in the alternate Test against Australia in New Delhi. This is the first time that he had broken into the top 10 list since September 2019.

Injured fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is the other Indian bowler in the top 10. He occupies the fifth spot.   England seamer James Anderson leads the list but Australia captain Pat Cummins has dropped two places to third position. Axar Patels late-order performances have pushed him into the top five in the all-rounder’s list, Jadeja and Ashwin are the leaders in the same.

Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne continues to hide the Test batters list. The list is followed by Steve Smith and Pakistan skipper Babar Azam. India’s Rishabh Pant, who’s out of action for an indefinite period following a terrible auto crash, is static at sixth. Indian captain Rohit Sharma continues to be seventh.

England batters Ollie Pope (over six places to 23rd), Harry Brook (over 12 places to 31st) and Ben Duckett (over 13 places to 38th) have achieved career-stylish rankings. The same with New Zealand’s Tom Blundell and Devon Conway. Blundell’s first innings knock of 138 has lifted him four places to 11th while Conway’s 77 has helped him move over five places to 17th.

Overall, it seems Indian cricketers are doing good in all categories of the ICC rankings for the moment.
