Deepak Chahar is still not out of the World Cup race: Akash Chopra

Cricket Commentator and former Indian cricketer Akash Chopra is very sure about Deepak Chahar that he is still to cement his position in the India team for T20 World Cup.

 Chahar, who made a buzzing return to international cricket after a six-month injury layoff and picked 3/27 wickets against Zimbabwe in Harare and also helped India to take a lead 1-0 in three matches ODI series on Thursday, August 18. His medium pace stopped Zimbabwe on 189 runs in the first inning. Shikhar Dhawan and Shubhman Gill then strung together an unbroken 192-run partnership as the visitors went on to register a resounding 10-wicket win.

                In a YouTube video, Akash Chopra enumerates Chahar’s strengths. Chopra said, Chahar has good strength to swing the bowl and also has the capacity to pick wickets while reducing runs.

 Though his name(Chahar) has not been included for the upcoming Asia Cup-2022, but only reserved in the squad, he is still to cement his position in the Indian squad for T20 World Cup-2022, repeated Chopra.

The cricketer-turned-commentator stated that the ongoing Zimbabwe series is pivotal for the Chennai Super King seamer’s World Cup hope. He stated,

As he (Chahar) came back after a long time and shined in the start, it showed that he was bowling within himself, wasn’t going all out. This series is being considered extremely crucial for Deepak Chahar from the World Cup point of view.

 Chahar, who last played a challenging game in February this year. He missed the entire IPL 2022 season and some other internationals due to injury and his fitness also missed out from recent India’s tour to West Indies.

Chopra concluded by praising Chahar’s strength and his willingness to go after wickets stands him in good stead.

The 44-year-old commentator cited, Chahar is one of best guy of Indian team, who has magic in his wrist for turning the bowl outswing and inswing very quickly. He has a brilliant capability to take wickets.

The return of Deepak Chahar is a big plus because if he can maintain fitness and rhythm, he can be a valuable part of the T20 squad. If he ticks hose boxes, and if Harshal Patel can’t recover in time, he will be in my T20 World Cup Team.
