Skipper Kaur’s 65 off 43 balls storming performance went into vain as she aimed for Gold

Indian women’s team finished their Birmingham CWG-2022 campaign on Sunday with a Silver medal after losing the final battle by 9 runs against Australia. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur hit a brilliant half-century 65 off 43 balls including 7 fours, and 2 sixes, but her storming performance went in vain as India failed to chase the 162-winning target. Jemimah Rodrigues scored 33 of 33 while chasing the target. On the other hand, Beth Mooney scored (61 off 41, 8 fours) and Ashleigh Gardner picked 3/16 in 3 overs from the Australian Side.

Australia women won the toss and decided to bat first. Opener Mooney (61), Captain Megh Lanning (36 off 26 balls), and all-rounder Gardner (25 off 15 balls) helped Australia as they finished their inning on 161/8 in 20 overs. Indian pacer Renuka Singh could not show her previous performance against Barbados, but she succeeds to book two Aussies (2/25 of 4 ov) in the first inning.

While chasing the target Indian start faltered as Opener Shafali Verma was out on 16 scores as well as her 11 off 7 balls. Smriti Mandha went pavilion as India’s second loss on the 22-team score. But Jemimah Rodrigues (33) and Skipper Harmanpreet (65 off 43 balls) handled the team and took India to very close to Gold Medal, Unfortunately, three middle women batters were run out and India lose the battle by 9 runs.
BCCI congratulated the Indian women’s team as they finished their CWG campaign with a Silver.


A tight finish in the end and Australia beat India by 9 runs in the final of the commonwealth Games. Team India get the Silver Medal, wrote on Twitter.
