The Indian contingent took 61 Medals including 22 Gold at the ongoing Birmingham Common Wealth Games which became India’s best-ever performance in CWG. India’s 61 medals at Birmingham seem short in comparison to the Delhi CWG in 2010 in which India had won a total of 101 medals including 39 Gold. But, Delhi’s medal tally is actually shorter than India’s medal place in Birmingham, here is the reason below and why…

India had won 101 medals in Delhi, 30 from shooting, eight from archery, seven from Greco-Roman wrestling, and four from tennis (30+8+7+4= 49 medals), None of these above games are the part of ongoing Birmingham CWG-2022. So, if we subtract these games’ medal count from Delhi’s total medals then it will be (101-49= 52) including 17 Gold, this finding is shorter than India’s performance in Birmingham which is total of 61 medals including 22 Gold.

But, for a fair comparison also take away lawn bowls gold and silver from Birmingham. The Cricket silver and Judo medals because these were not part of Delhi CWG-2010 and lawn bowls in 2010 did not have men’s and women’s fours, the events in which India won medals here. India won 3 medals in Judo, 2 medals in lawn bowls, and 1 silver in cricket (3+2+1=6). After reducing 6 medals from Birmingham of a total 61 (61-6=55) what is left is also greater than Delhi’s 52. India won 1 gold in lawn bowls women, if we reduce this from Birmingham’s total of 22 gold then we will get 21 gold which is greater than 17 at Delhi in 2010.

Comparing the things in same with Gold Coast in 2018 edition would mean excluding the medals which landed from shooting, brings the tally from four years ago to 50 medals, including 19 gold. The above finding is again short of the total medal achieved at Birmingham.
Relative to 2010, India has lost some ground (only in terms of medals) in Athletics and Gymnastics, but has more than offset that through gains in Badminton, Table Tennis, Squash and to some extent Weightlifting and hockey.

In comparison to Gold Coast 2018 the big gain in Athletics. India won 8 medals in Athletics at Birmingham (1 Gold, 4 Silver, 3 Bronze) which is greater than 3 medals in 2018. One extra medal in Hockey and in Weightlifting (10 medals including 3 Gold, 3 Silver, 4 Bronze). Whereas, a slight dip in India’s performance in Boxing and TT. India has won 7 medals in Boxing (3 Gold, 1 Silver, 3 Bronze) and 7 in TT (4 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze) at Birmingham which is a little bit short of Gold Coast in 2018.
