As the opening ceremony of the Birmingham Common Wealth games is going to take place on the 28th of July held at the Alexander Stadium, the first set of sports, right from the lawn bowl to Men’s hockey between India vs Ghana that will take place on 29th July, 2022 as the first day.
For the opening ceremony itself around 700 Birmingham locals are preparing their voices and are working hard for their thunderous performance. Carol Pemberton explains about the latest development happening on how the choir came together and what it means, have a look,
The interesting thing about 2022’s commonwealth games is that for the first time Indian Women’s cricket team will take part in the event. The first match that the Indian women cricket side will be playing against the Pakistan’s Women Cricket team on July 31st. As mentioned above, it will be the debut event for the women’s cricket team in the commonwealth games. As of now, total 1.2 million tickets have been sold out for the commonwealth games adding to it, the match between India Vs. Pakistan has really caught the interest of the locals. The match between the two cricket rivals of all times is going to take place at the Edgbaston Stadium.
Excited about the biggest event in the country since London 2012, the CEO of Birmingham Games while speaking to the Press Trust of India said about the India vs. Pakistan fixture,
I am a big cricket fan myself. India are in the same group as Pakistan so that has really caught the interest here in Birmingham. It is an iconic venue, your men’s team recently played here over the last few weeks. So it would certainly be one of the highlights of the Games
Understanding the gravity or depth of the craze that is there in the air, the CEO also said that most likely the tickets would see an uptick and expect the tickets for the India Vs. Pakistan match would also be sold out soon.
He further added,
We have sold 1.2 million tickets for the event. We expect that number to go up as we get closer to the Games. So by far the biggest sporting event in the UK since London 2012.
We will have about 45000 volunteers and paid staff working on the event. It is a huge event for the region and the city
