Borussia Dortmund qualified for the UEFA Champions League final thanks to Mats Hummels’ header allowing them to overcome the challenge of PSG (2-0 on aggregate).

An 11-year dream has finally come true for Borussia Dortmund. The Black and Yellow qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 2013 after a 1-0 win over PSG on Wednesday evening. Mats Hummels, who played in the final in 2013, scored the only goal in the second leg to secure a 2-0 aggregate win. A trip to Wembley Stadium now awaits Borussia Dortmund, where they will face Jude Bellingham and Real Madrid or their leaders Bayern Munich in the Champions League final.

As has been the case for most of this Champions League campaign for Borussia Dortmund, it was a late defensive hero that helped them get over the line against PSG. Chance after chance fell to the French giants throughout the match, but a combination of dogged defense and woodwork beat Edin Terzic to the side.

The first half was a very cautious one, with Borussia Dortmund’s defensive defense ensuring that PSG struggled to create clear chances. Karim Adeyemi had the best chance in the first 45 minutes in a counterattack, but was denied by a great save by Gianluigi Donnarumma.

PSG increased their intensity after the break and almost took the lead on the night in the 47th minute, but Warren Zaire-Emery was denied by the post from close range. Three minutes later, Borussia Dortmund were made to pay when Mats Hummels rose to head home Julian Brandt’s corner. The goal gave BVB the two goal advantage they were looking for and allowed them to close shop. The home team continued to push to get back into the game, but ran into what looked like an incredible yellow defensive wall. Led by the timeless Hummels, Borussia Dortmund showed incredible resilience and almost failed to control Kylian Mbappe and the staff. are in a strong position, securing their place in the UEFA Champions League final.
