"Bit Like AB de Villiers Did When He Was In Actual Prime": Ricky Ponting On India Star

The former Australian legend and captain, Ricky Ponting has come in high praise for Suryakumar Yadav recently and also comparing him with South African veteran Ab De Villiers. He (Ricky) said that the Indian possesses a 360-degree game inside of him and can be used as fourth player for the upcoming T20 World cup. He while speaking at the ICC review said,

Surya (Yadav) scores 360 degrees around the ground, a bit like an AB de Villiers did when he was in his actual prime. The lap shots, the late cuts, you know, the ramps over the keeper’s head. He can hit down the ground,

He further added,

He hits really well over the leg side, flicks to deep backward square particularly well, and he’s a good player of fast bowling and is a good player of spin bowling. He’s a very, very exciting player and I’m sure someone that’s going to find himself in their team, not just their squad,

His shower of praises didn’t stop and continued by calling Suryakumar Yadav as a confident person who can rise at any challenging situation and he thinks that we should expect him inside the Indian team as the Australian crowd will love watching him playing.

For Surya, it’s one, two or four. I think he can open, but I think he’s probably, you know, if you could probably just keep him away from the new ball, let him control the middle part of the game outside the Powerplay, through in the middle, and if he’s in at the end, you know what can happen.” Yadav’s strike rate rises to 258.82 in the death overs in T20Is — in 34 balls he has smashed 88 runs with 15 of those deliveries going for boundaries

No doubt what Suryakumar Yadav can do with his bat but the timing in which the showers of praises are coming, makes one feel skeptical because as we all know, Australian is the hosting nation and would like to win the WC even this time but praises like these especially at your strong competitors sounds a bit of tune. Well, let the time suggest.

The T20 World cup is commencing from October 16th this year and will end around 13th November.
