Ben Stokes, the captain of England’s Test team, has opted to rescind his decision to withdraw from ODI play and is now available for selection for the next World Cup in India. In a 50-over match against New Zealand at home that begins on September 8, Ben Stokes will once again don the England one-day shirt. From August 30 forward, England will host a white-ball series against the Kiwis that will include four T20Is and one ODI per team. However, the team did not have a spot for renowned bowler Jofra Archer.

According to a press statement from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Stokes is back in the England Men’s ODI lineup after changing his mind about leaving the game, while fast Gus Atkinson of Surrey is named to the 15-man team.

On July 19, 2022, Stokes last participated in an ODI for England against South Africa. He has 2,924 runs scored at an average of 38.98 and a strike rate of above 95 in 105 ODIs. In 90 innings, he has three centuries and 21 fifty-sixes. Additionally, he has 74 wickets in the format, with a high of 5/61.

Atkinson, Josh Tongue, and John Turner are among the three players in the team who have never played in a 20-over match against the Blackcaps in a four-match T20I series.

This summer’s Men’s Ashes Series gave Tongue his England debut, and Hampshire right-armer Turner gets named to his first England team.

“We have been able to name two extremely strong squads that underline the depth of talent we enjoy in white-ball cricket,” stated England Men’s National Selector Luke Wright.

“The return of Ben Stokes, with his ability to win matches and leadership, only strengthens that attribute. Every fan will appreciate seeing him in an England ODI shirt once more, I’m sure of it.

Josh Tongue has earned a spot in the T20 team after shining during the Ashes, and we are thrilled to award Gus Atkinson and John Turner their maiden international calls. We will get a great opportunity to test ourselves against one of the top teams in the world in any series against New Zealand, Wright said.
