Bangladesh wicketkeeper Batsman Nurul Hasan has accused Indian maestro Virat Kohli of ‘fake fielding’. This went unnoticed by the referee on the field and in his Cup match at T20 Worlds. He deprived his team of five crucial penalties of his runs. Bangladesh set a corrected target of 151 in 16 overs after a brief rain shower and was 5 runs short.

His skipper Shakib Al Hasan conceded they lost fair, but Nurul, who held Bangladesh in the final by 6 and 4 against Arshdeep Singh, criticized the referee on the field after the match.”In any event, when the match resumed, the wet outfield had an effect. But there was also one wrong throw that could have given five runs, but it was I couldn’t even achieve it.

The incident Nurul was referring to occurred in the seventh round.Video footage showed Arshdeep throwing the ball from deep, with Kohli pretending to pass it to the non-striker side at that point.

On the relay throw, the fielder closest to the lane catches the ball from deep and throws it to the stump.

Nurul’s claim is questioned, as his two thugs, Litton Das and Najmul Hossein Shanto, did not even see Kohli.

ICC Rules of Play Rule 41.5 relates to unfair play and prohibits the defensive team from “deliberately distracting, deceiving or interfering with a batter”.

If the referee discovers that someone has broken a rule, the referee considers it a dead ball and with five penalties he may give a run.Nurul accused Kohli of pitching incorrectly but generally did not consider the terms “distraction and deception”.

Neither Shanto nor Litton Das saw Kohli, so they were not distracted or deceived.

Conversely, Nurul may be sanctioned for criticizing match officials.
