Hundreds of spectators lined up for the final between Argentina and Colombia and waited behind the entrance gate, which remained closed for more than an hour after it was scheduled to open at 5 pm. Security officials told AFP that the gate was still closed because players tried to force their way into the stadium every time it was open.
A police officer who was there told AFP that several supporters managed to quickly enter the stadium. It is not known if they have tickets for the game.
Supporters interviewed by AFP reporters described the chaotic situation at the entrance. “It’s crazy, people are trying to get in like crazy,” said David Fernandez, a Colombian fan from Gainesville, Florida.
