Suyash Sharma hails from a lower-middle-class background and has no ‘godfather’ in a corrupt cricket environment. He is the typical Delhi cricketer who is not a product of the establishment. In fact, despite the system, it succeeded. Not only has she struggled with the lack of support, but also stress related to her father’s illness, who was battling dreaded cancer.
Delhi continues to produce this type of phenomenal talent with monotonous regularity and the 19-year-old with long hairs from Bhajanpura in East Delhi is the latest to join the bandwagon. (Read Also: Replacement announcement is due for the injured Rajat Patidar of RCB)
The unknown Suyash, making his debut as a ‘batter substitute’, scored 3 for 30 in KKR’s 81-round win over Royal Challengers Bangalore. Her scalps included two well-known goalie batsmen: Dinesh Karthik and Anuj Rawat, and all-rounder Karn Sharma.
The broken-leg bowler showed little sign of nervousness. His arm speed and ability to break legs and jump without significantly changing the action have certainly captured the imagination of coaches and fans alike. Bhajanpura in Delhi rose to prominence three years ago when it was one of the epic centres of communal unrest in the city.
“It was not an easy journey for Suyash. He was a student of former Delhi spinner Suresh Batra and used to play for his club. We lost Suresh Ji to COVID-19 and after that, he came to me because he wanted to practice a match. I gave him a chance to play for my Madras club in the DDCA league and Run Star club in open tournaments,” Delhi coach’s Randhir Singh shared with PTI.
The last year had been extremely difficult for Suyash, who does not come from a wealthy family. “I discovered cancer in your father. But I think he will forever be indebted to Rahul Sanghvi, ex-Delhi nutcase and current MI manager, who helped him immensely in his father’s treatment.
Two Rajasthan Ranji followers transformed the course of his life
performance was in the hands of Suyash, and he did so at the DDCA Challenger Trophy, a test tournament to select the U-25 state team.
But that was not enough as there were enough people in the DDCA circle who also spread rumours about Suyash, that he is a Rajasthan resident, that he is chairman of selectors Gagan Khoda, and the status of head coach Sub-25 Pankaj Singh. But that was a lie as the boy had played all his cricket in Delhi but both Pankaj and Gagan put him on the white ball team for the BCCI U25 tournament.
