The excitements and expectations on the peak among sports champions who are set to perform in the CWG-2022. In this order, Indian woman cricketer Smriti Mandhana cleared their team’s intentions saying that We are aiming for Gold only.’ In a virtual press conference on Saturday which was held ahead of the team departure for Birmingham she said, “ The team are properly prepared for facing all challenges at Birmingham as we are aiming for gold medal only.” The Vice Skipper of Indian Woman team was full of confidence during the press conference.
It is the first time that Cricket is included in Commonwealth Games which is great opportunity for Indian woman cricketer to show their stardom. The cricket has returned in the CWG after 24 years and only woman team will participate in this edition of CWG.
Mandhana, the start opener of Indian team said, “The all-girls of Indian Squad are really excited and we all know the feeling because we have urged the commonwealth and Olympic when the Indian flag goes higher and we hear the national anthem of our country, everyone can imagine the feeling of proud at that moment.”
“So we are aiming definitely only for Gold and I don’t think that we will look for just podium finish. We have an opportunity to prove Indian woman strength as Earlier Neeraj Chopra performed in Olympic,” added Indian vice-captain.
Earlier, BCCI announced Indian squad for Birmingham Commonwealth Game on July 11. The CWG-2022 is scheduled to start on July 28th and will continue till August 8th. According to Selection Committee, These woman players are in the 15 member Indian Squad. Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana(VC), Shafali Verma, S. Meghna, Tania Sapna Bhatia (WK), Deepti Sharma, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Pooja Vastrakar, Meghna Singh, Renuka Thakur, Jemimah Rodrigues, Radha Yadav, Harleen Deol, Sneh Rana. Whereas Simran Dil Bahadur Richa Ghosh, Poonam Yadav are included as standby players.
Indian team has placed in Group A. The first match will be held on July 29 in Birmingham against Australia. The second group match fixed against the arch-rival Pakistan then after Indian team will face Barbados in third match.
