He also talked about being lucky to be in the Indian team for the 2011 World Cup which they won. Kohli had taken over as Test captain from MS Dhoni in the 2014- 15 tour of Australia and other two formats in 2017.

Kohli has played 106 Tests, 271 ODIs, and 115 T20Is for India in a career span of 15 years scoring over 25000 runs.

“Look, you play to win events. I captained in Champion’s trophy in 2017(reached the final), the 2019 World Mug (reached the semi-final), I captained in World Test Championship (reached the final), and T20 World Cup in 2021(failed to qualify for the knockouts). After three(four) ICC events, I got a tag as a failed captain,” said Kohli.

“I no way judged myself from that point of view; what we ended up as a team achievement and as an artistic transformation that always going to be a matter of pride for me. An event happens for a certain period but a culture happens over a long period and for that, you need thickness you need further characters than just winning an event,” he added. “I won a World Cup as a player. I won the Champions trophy as a player. I’ve been part of the team that has won five Tests. However, no way won a World Cup,” he also said so, if you look at that point of view there have been people.

Still, Virat Kohli is a World Cup Winner. As he was part of the Indian team that won the 2011 edition of the event at home. He said that he was lucky to be part of that winning team.

“To be honest, I was lucky enough to be part of the 2011 team. And what led to my selection was also amazing because I had a great run of great scores. I ended up being with the team. Sachin Tendulkar was playing in his sixth World Cup, and that was the bone he won. I was suitable to be a part of the team for the first time, and I ended up being part of the winning side.  I’m looking back at moments that I’m thankful, for not what has gone wrong in my career. I’m not mad for my awards gallery to be full,” he said.
