Troubles for Indian women’s team increased, unfit badminton doubles player Gayatri Gopichand withdrew from Uber Cup

Indian doubles badminton player Gayatri Gopichand has to pull out of the upcoming Uber Cup finals after being advised rest to recover from a hip strain. Sanjay Mishra, secretary of the Badminton Association of India (BAI), confirmed this. The tournament starts in Bangkok from Sunday.

Gayatri pairs up with Trisha Jolly in the women’s doubles. The pair has been in great rhythm for quite some time now. The duo has made impressive performances in the international and domestic circuits. She was also ruled out of the Asia Badminton Championships due to this injury.

The Indian women’s team’s troubles have worsened after Gayathri pulled out of the Uber Cup as the experienced pair of N Sikki Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa have already pulled out of the tournament. Sikki is out of the game due to stomach ache. India are in Group D along with South Korea, Canada and the US in the Uber Cup Finals.
