Thailand Open:PV Sindhu’s semi-finals lost to Olympic champion Chen, will now participate in Indonesia Masters

India’s star badminton player PV Sindhu crashed out of the tournament after losing in straight games to Olympic champion Chen Yu Fei in the semi-finals of the Thailand Open on Saturday. Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist in Bangkok, went down 17-21 16-21 to third seed Chen in 43 minutes to end her stellar journey in the Super 500 tournament.

Sixth seed Sindhu had a 6-4 win against Chen before this match, but she could not do as well against the Chinese player. Chen, on the other hand, won by playing aggressive badminton. The 26-year-old from Hyderabad had last lost to Chen in the 2019 BWF World Tour Finals. Sindhu was trailing 7-11 till the break after a 3-3 draw in the first game. Chen continued to dominate the rallies and retained five game points.

Sindhu saved two game points but the Chinese opponent easily won the first game. World No. 7 Sindhu played a better game in the second gum to take a 6-3 lead and maintained a two-point lead till the break, but world No. 4 China soon started capturing the game and Leading 15-12. After this Sindhu could not reverse the momentum and Chen registered the victory by getting four match points.

Sindhu, who won two Super 300 titles this season at the Syed Modi International and the Swiss Open, will now participate in the Indonesia Masters Super 500 tournament to be held in Jakarta from June 7-12.
