T20 World Cup India vs South Africa: We could not hold on to our chances, says Rohit Sharma

The T20 World cup so far for the Indian team has been better but not the best. You know why, because, the Indian team lost to the Proteas in an easy looking match. Let us tell you how?

In the match that took place on Sunday, between India and South Africa, the Indian team captain Rohit Sharma after winning the toss, took batting first in order to create some runs for the Proteas team as a target. But unfortunately, team India, rather than making a target, became the target of the opposite team.

As mentioned, coming to bat first, the entire team India managed to score just 133 runs. With the loss of 9 wickets. But coming to bat in the second innings, Proteas although struggled till the last minute, somehow managed to gain victory over Indian in the game making 137 runs for the loss of 5 wickets.

Now at the post match presentation, when questions were asked to Bhuveneshwar Kumar about his view on the failure, Bhuvi without any hesitation blamed the crucial catches (from Virat Kohli) and simple looking run outs (Rohit Sharma) as major part of the failure. Look at what he said,

Yes, if you take those catches its a different thing. You know catches win matches

He further added by saying,

If we could have taken those chances, who knows things could have been different

But when asked Bhuvi about his views when did he felt the momentum shifted for the indian team, he said,

I wouldn’t say the momentum shifted but if we could caught those chances

Now time for the captain to talk. Rohit Sharma took full ownership of the game, and accepted that a few run-outs by his own and a few catches where the chances in the field weren’t clinically right. He said,

We could not hold on to our chances. We missed a few run-outs, including myself. We were a little poor on the field. We gave so many chances in the field, and we weren’t clinical. We were just not good enough. The last two games, we’ve been pretty good on the field. We need to keep our heads high and take a learning from this game

From the other end, Bhuvneshwar when asked about the cold weather and batting first was the reason behind failure. He said, yes to it, stating “It was very difficult, but we never talked about that”

And while answering the second part of the question he said,

If you are playing in the sub-continent, you generally try to chase. In Australia, things keep changing from ground to ground, city to city. We batted first, because we knew chasing is not an easy task especially in Perth

Now we leave upto you folks to think and decide, whether this failure was a genuine one or intended to be. Because, with India losing this match, Pakistan is almost out of the tournament!

SssHhhh…Can’t Say much!!
