Former champions Sri Lanka and the West Indies suffered embarrassing defeats in the first two days of the mega event. Sri Lanka lost to Namibia in their opening match of the tournament, while two-time champions West Indies were over whelmed by Scotlan
With so many matches missed in his T20 World Cup in 2022, more unwanted records could be set.
The T20 World Cup started in 2007 and has seen some players and teams set embarrassing records over the last 15 years. We can refer to the list offive such records.
Minimum team total in T20 World Cup history
Sri Lanka played the Netherlands in the group stage of the 2014 T20 World Cup in Chattogram. The Islanders won the toss and picked the first field.
Angelo Matthews, Ajantha Mendis, Lasith Malinga, and Nuwan Kulasekhara only took him 10.3 overs to bowl the Dutch team.
Angelo Mathews and Mendis each took 3 wickets, Malinga and Kulasekara conceded his 3 wickets, and the Dutch side was dismissed for 39 runs. This is the lowest total in T20 World Championship history.
Highest Match defeat in T20 World Cup history
Kenya and the Netherlands hold the record for the biggest losses in points conceded and balls left respectively. In 2007, Sri Lanka scored 260 runs in a group match against Kenya. In response, the African team managed just 88 runs and lost by a huge margin of 172 runs. In 2014, Sri Lanka defeated the Netherlands by 39 runs, chasing a goal of 40 runs in 5 overs with 90 balls remaining.
Lowest batting average in T20 World Cup innings.
Afghan fast bowler Shapoor Zadran holds the dismal record for the lowest batting average in an innings of his game (10 ball face) at T20 World Cup.
In the 2014 T20 World Cup first-round match against Bangladesh, Zadran managed only 1 of 11 deliveries. His batting average was just 9.09. Tailender lost a wicket in that match to Shakib Al Hasan. No hitter wants to beat Shapoor’s record at the 2022 T20 World Championships.
Most Ducks at T20 World Cup
Folding for a duck is one of the most embarrassing things in cricket. Former Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi has shared the same record with T20 Worlds former Sri Lankan batsman Thilak ratne Dilshan in his Cup history. Both Asians scored five ducks each. Most active hitters aren’t in the top half of this list so that record is unlikely to be broken at the T20 World Championships in 2022.
Most Sixes conceded in an over in a T20 World Cup
England pacesetter Stuart Broad holds the embarrassing record of having conceded the most sixers in a T20 World Cup match in one over. Broad played India in the Super 8 round of the first tournament of 2007, where he lost 36 runs in the over. Yuvraj Singh smashed every ball thrown by Broad for 6 in 19 overs. It will be interesting to see if hitters can pull off the same feat at the 2022 T20 World Championships.
This T20 world cup 2022 may show a great lineup of new winners and losers.
