Suryakumar Yadav Marks 100th T20I, Joins Kohli and Rohit in Elusive Company
This is what makes this moment so special & important for none other than the captain of the Indian T20 International side – Suryakumar Yadav! He played his 100th match in internationals today in the first match against New Zealand itself in a T20 International match played at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur and thus became one among a very few Indians to reach this mark in his internationals in T20Is for India. He trails behind Hardik Pandya (125), Virat Kohli (125) & Rohit Sharma (159) in this list.
Suryakumar Yadav at 35 has been a magician in white-ball cricket. He has scored 2,788 runs in 93 innings at a reasonably decent average of 35.29. It is a wonder to think that he has hit four bellowing centuries and 21 fifties. No wonder he is the third-highest T20 International scorer for India. His 360-degree strokes and aggression have been game-changers, especially after he has become the captain. The whole stadium is with him as he is encouraging the young blood and observance the spirits high.
This achievement advanced over a series of matches, and it is a picture-perfect lead-up to the 2026 T20 World Cup. The head of the New Zealand team, Mitchell Santner, won the toss and decided to bowl. He hopes to utilize the initial swing. “The wicket is very nice. It may do a bit in the initial stages,” he said. “It’s a perfect lead-in to the upcoming World Cup.” They decided to give a debut to Kristian Clarke. Kyle Jamieson and Jacob Duffy returned to the team, but Michael Bracewell had to be excluded due to a calf injury.
Suryakumar understood, “It was a very positive day. We had some ideas on how to score. The dewy conditions last night at approximately 8:30 pm allowed for better scoring ability than we typically have. We are happy with what we have been doing lately, we are in good spirits through our team environment, all of our players have been contributed so we are excited.
This series would also be a very good opportunity to see how the Indian cricket team performs in the absence of a few key players in the series itself. The presence of SKY and the punch he provides in terms of the bat may very well prove to be the difference between winning and losing a winning position in the series itself. And to add all of the above, having a good pace in Bumrah who will lead from the front in terms of the presence in terms of the finishers in Rinku and Dube would be a huge boost for the Indian Cricket Team in the series. And to add all of the above, Fireworks to be expected!
