Rohit reveals a huge reason behind picking Avesh Khan over Bhuvneshwar in the final over of 2nd T20: ‘We know what he does…’
The first second T20 match between West Indies and India was delayed due to non-receipt of team baggage at St Kitts airport from Trinidad. And secondly, the delay was so much that star player Suryakumar Yadav came out wearing Arshdeep’s jersey.
Third, India lost their winning momentum by losing by 5 wickets in this particular match. Now call it bad omen or poor performance of batting skills but critics are critics, they will say anything. The credit for this win for West Indies goes to player of the match Obed McCoy, who took 6 wickets.
From the batting side, Brandon King scored 68, Devon Thomas (31 off 19 balls) and 14 runs by Nicholas Pooran, which was really poor batting, but still it should be noted as it was the third highest score in the game.
But there was a time when the West Indies team needed 16 runs of the final two overs, when Rohit Sharma handed the bowl to Arshdeep Singh which in fact resulted in a good score. But when after him the time came when everybody was expecting him to bring the experienced Bhuvneshwar Kumar, he shocked everyone by bringing in less experienced Avesh khan. Unfortunately, this time the cards played didn’t go so well and the Caribbeans achieved the target beforehand.
When asked the skipper about the decision he made and why he made, he simply cited this a matter of just match but he also said that they all know what Bhuvneshwar Kumar could have done, but he said,
Unless you give chances to guys like Avesh and Arshdeep you’ll never know
He continued further saying,
It is just one game. They have the skills and the talent and it is all about backing them. I am really proud of the bowlers and the team. Targets such as these can get over in 13-14 overs but we dragged it to the last over. I thought the guys executed the plans and really happy with the way the guys bowled
Now the words that came out of the Indian skipper felt to be the words from a leader and correct strategist, and why we say so, is totally because, it was really a matter of just one game, that too the second T20I match of the 5-match T20I series. So don’t you feel making such experiments in the safer zone may reap profits in the future.
Of course, it will, because what Rohit did was absolutely right and there was no harm doing such experimentation as it broadens the chances of whom to choose and whom to not and definitely in what situation.
