Reportedly, India captain Rohit Sharma will be rested for part of India’s tour of the West Indies which starts in July.

Team India is on a one-month break from international cricket. Now they will play a multi-format series against the West Indies, starting on July 12 with the first of two test matches in Dominica. The Indian team led by Rohit Sharma lost their second consecutive World Test Championship final at the Oval against Australia. It didn’t end well and India suffered a 209-run defeat.

However, with the upcoming West Indies tour almost a month away, the Indian board is likely to rest some of the seniors while dropping others. India might send a totally new team to the tour across all three formats. Both teams will play two tests, followed by three ODIs and five T20Is. The tour will conclude on August 13, with the fifth and final T20I match in Lauderhill, Florida.

Rohit Sharma is moving through a rough patch with his own form.

It has been a lean patch for Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. He was not at his finest in the 2023 Indian Premier League and couldn’t score in the WTC final 2023 against Australia. BCCI might ask Rohit to rest from the West Indies tour. This decision will be taken to manage his workload across all three formats, with the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup coming up.

The 35-year-old managed 332 runs in the IPL 2023 at a strike rate of 132.80. Some reports confirm that he might be rested either from the test squad or both. A source said in an interaction with Times India, “Rohit looked jaded during the IPL and the World Test Championship final in England. The selectors want him to rest for the West Indies tour. He’s likely to miss the Tests or the eight-match white-ball series (three ODIs and five T20Is) to follow. The selectors will speak to Rohit and then decide.”
