Star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu lost her cool and received a yellow card for breaking her racquet after losing in the quarter-final of the Madrid Spain Masters Super 300 tournament on Friday.

Double Olympic medalist Sindhu lost to Supainda Katethong of Thailand 26-24, 17-21, and 20- 22 in a marathon match that went on for 77 minutes. This happened in the final moments of the match when Sindhu’s return found the net at 20-21. Sindhu dropped her racket in agony as she ended a close match when Katethong fell to her knees after the win. The umpire then showed Sindhu a yellow card.

Sindhu started the match well and won the first game 26-24 after saving five match points. It was a roller coaster game with the two players returning to different phases of the game.

In the second match, Katethong watched in better shape and won the 21-17 match to force a decision maker. The final was another rollercoaster ride as PV Sindhu took an 11-9 lead in the match, but Katethong was strong as the team converted and took straight points to lead 16-13.

Sindhu then saved five game points to make it 20-20, but in the end, her error at the net cost her the match. With Sindhu’s win, B Sumeeth Reddy and N Sikki Reddy were the Indian runners-up to reach the semi-finals after Ashwini Ponnappa/Tanisha Crasto defeated Chinese Taipei’s Lee Chia Hsin and Teng Chin Hsun.
