Prannoy reaches in quarter-finals of the Malaysia Open

Indian shuttle star HS Prannoy put in another great performance to qualify for the men’s singles quarterfinals by beating Indonesia’s Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo during the Malaysia Open Super 750 defeat here on Thursday. The world No. 8 Indian looked in fine form as he repelled a fiery battle against world No. 19 Chico in an hour &four minutes with 21-9 15-21 21-16.30. The 30 years old badminton star from Kerala meets Ng Tze Yong from Malaysia or Kodai Naraoka from Japan. Teresa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand fought hard before losing 13-21, 21-15, and 17-21 to Bulgarians Gabriela Stoeva and Stefani Stoeva in the women’s doubles quarterfinals.

For Prannoy, it was his second fight with Chico, defeating him at 2018 Syed Modi International. Throughout his life, Prannoy got off to a good start, showing better control, and his offense also paid off, leading 7-5 before going 11-5 at half-time. As Chico struggled against the drifting conditions, Prannoy escaped in the first game. After the break, Chico showed better control and after a clean exchange of blows with his opponent, developed a 6-2 lead. The Indonesian seemed to attack harder and quickly took an 11-5 lead at halftime. Both players tried to pressure each other during the exchange, but Prannoy made mistakes when Chico reverse sliced met at 17:11.
