P.V. Sindhu enters the semi-final of the Madrid Spanish Masters

5th Seeded Kidambi Srikanth out of the event

Olympic medalist for 2 times P.V. Sindhu made it to the semi-finals despite the elimination of compatriot Kidambi Srikanth at the Madrid Spanish Masters on March 31 in Madrid. Sindhu got the best of world No. 19 Denmark Mia Blichfeldt 21-14 21-17 to reach their first semi-final of the year. Srikanth, on the other hand, lost in the men’s singles quarterfinals to Japanese midfielder Kenta Nishimoto 18-21, 15-21.Second-seeded Sindhu has been trying to regain his footing since returning from a lengthy injury layoff. The 27-year-old has slipped out of the top 10 in the world rankings and has yet to make it past the second round in the last few tournaments in 2023.After a quiet start to the match, the former world champion completely dominated the second half of the game to take the first game with ease. Though,Sindhu was behind for most of the second game.But she made an impressive comeback, battling 6-12 to record a back-to-back win. Sindhu is the only Indian player remaining in the Super 300 tournament. She meets Singapore’s unseeded Yeo Jia Min for a place in the final.

Earlier, fifth-seeded Kidambi Srikanth, a former world no.one was Srikanth’s third defeat to the Japanese Shuttle. He exhibited his talent, but the extent of inconsistency in his performance paid the cost for him.
