Chelsea leapfrogged Manchester United into seventh place in the Premier League table as the Blues thrashed West Ham United 5-0, with Nicolas Jackson scoring twice at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
The win moved Chelsea to 54 points, level with Manchester United. Who will face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday evening. The Blues are on top thanks to a better goal difference of 11 compared to United.
In the 15th minute, Cole Palmer scored his 21st goal of the season. Subsequently, he curled a Nicolas Jackson assist into the left corner of the net, giving Chelsea the lead between the hammers. By the half-hour mark, Conor Gallagher had doubled Chelsea’s lead. The England international took advantage of Noni Madueke’s rebound in the area and fired powerfully into the net. Madueke made it 3-0 in the 36th minute. The Nigerian-born striker headed in an assist from Thiago Silva’s header. And the visitors went into half-time with a well-taken lead. Jackson doubled his lead in the second half. Firstly, in the 48th minute, the Senegalese international scored from an unselfish pass by Madueke to make it 4-0.
He scored again in the 80th minute to seal Chelsea’s win. It was a bad day for striker Jarrod Bowen, who almost scored twice against West Ham in the game. His efforts on goal bounced off the ball twice in the first half, and the Hammers’ presence in west London ended in ruins.
