MasterCard will be replacing Paytm as title sponsor for international cricket at home

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) facing issues of different nature with its key sponsor Byju’s and Paytm. The EdTech Company Byju’s owes over INR 86.21 Crore to BCCI reportedly, whereas the FinTech Company is looking to replace it with MasterCard as sponsor for international cricket at home.

          The top officials of BCCI discussed the above issues with key sponsors in their Apex Council Meeting in Mumbai on Thursday. They also talked about the media rights for Indian cricket’s home season and made a plan for a full-fledged domestic season.

          According to a source, The Fintech company Paytm has requested to give its home cricket title to ‘MasterCard’ as The existing agreement between both is from September 2019 to March 31, 2023.

“Earlier, The Paytm official had requested to BCCI that handover its sponsorship to a third party company reciting the financial troubles of their company,” Source added.

He said that a note put up before the BCCI Apex Council during the meeting and seen by Cricbuzz, says, “After multiple rounds of negotiations, Byju’s offer for a contract extension from 1.4.2022 until the end of ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 at a 10% incremental rights fee was approved by the board.” Byju’s also seems to be looking for third-party branding.
