Mary Kom steps down as Chef-de-Mission (HEAD OF Mission) for Paris Olympics

Olympic bronze medalist and six-time world champion MC Mary Kom on Friday resigned as head chef of the Indian team at the Paris Olympics, citing “personal matters”. An IOA representative is expected to be appointed shortly. Thanking the Indian Olympic team for trusting her, Mary admitted that it was a shame but she had no choice.

“I consider it an honor to serve my country in any way possible, and I am mentally prepared for it. However, I am saddened that I cannot take up this formidable responsibility and would like to resign due to this reason. It is a shame to go back on a promise, Which I rarely do, but I have no choice,” Mary wrote in a letter to IOA President P.T Usha. Usha agrees to receive Mary’s letter stating that she cannot continue. Mary, who is also the president of the IOA Athletes’ Commission. Was appointed the chef three weeks ago and was recognized and accepted.

“We are saddened that Olympic boxer and IOA Athletes’ Commission President Mary Kom has resigned for personal reasons. And I will make appropriate recommendations and make an announcement soon about Mary Kom’s replacement,”. Usha said in a statement, adding that she had also spoken to Mary about her decision.

“I fully understand his request and respect his decision. I also let him know that he will always have my and IOA’s support. Also request everyone to respect the personal life of the famous boxer,” he added.
