After losing to Tai Tzu Ying 13-21 21-15 21-13, PV Sindhu crashed out in the Malaysia Open’s women’s singles quarterfinals.
PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Malaysia Open Super 750 badminton tournament after falling to Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying, a rival, in a tense three-game match on Friday. The seventh-seeded Sindhu lost against the second-seeded Tai Tzu, an Olympic silver medalist, 13-21, 21-15, 21-13 after blowing a game lead. The Chinese Taipei shuttler increased her advantage over the Indian ace to 16-5 as a result of the victory. Sindhu has now dropped six straight games to Tai Tzu.
Playing against drift, Sindhu got off to a sluggish start and fell behind 2-5 in the first game. She quickly recovered, however, and scored 11 points straight to lead 11-7 at the half.
The shuttler from Chinese Taipei attempted to reenter the match by playing lengthy rallies, but Sindhu was able to win the first game.
Sindhu made a strong start in the second set, but her esteemed rival quickly took control and went ahead 11-3 at the half.
Following the change of ends, Tai Tzu played in the same manner and increased her lead to 14-3 before Sindhu used her powerful smashes to cut the gap to 17-15.
However, Tai Tzu swiftly recovered and scored the next four points to tie the game.

Both shuttlers fought valiantly until 12 points into the decider before Tai Tzu placed Sindhu under pressure with a combination of drop shots and smashes to win the third game and maintain her chances of defending her crown.
Later on in the day, the top-seeded Indian player in the Thomas Cup, HS Prannoy, will square off against world No. 8 Jonatan Christie in the men’s singles quarterfinals.
