India’s pacesetter Jasprit Bumrah has started his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy, while middle batsman Shreyas Iyer will undergo surgery for a lower back problem, India’s Cricket Board of Control (BCCI) said on Saturday. He is currently recovering from his injury and it is unknown when he will return. Bumrah missed the crucial 2022 T20 World Championship due to back problems. He was part of the ODI squad for the series against Sri Lanka but dropped afterward. The right-arm pacer will miss the ongoing IPL for the Mumbai Indians as well as the Test World Cup final against Australia.

Bumrah got a consultation to begin six weeks of rehabilitation after surgery and began his rehabilitation management at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore on Friday 14 April. “Jasprit Bumrah underwent lower back surgery in New Zealand which was successful and remains pain-free.

As per the advice, Bumrah has started his rehabilitation management at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore from Friday.”

Shreyas Iyer, on the other hand, returned from a back injury earlier this year but made two appearances in the Border Gavaskar Trophy before being ruled out again. The star batsman has been ruled out of the current Indian Premier League season due to a recurring lower back problem.

The surgery schedule is due for Iyer in the next week. Shreyas Iyer is due to have surgery next week for his back problems. He will remain in the surgeon’s care for two weeks and then return to the NCA for rehabilitation,” BCCI said in a statement.
