Joshi, Bhagat reaches quarterfinal in Para-Badminton Championships

India’s Pramod Bhagat and Manasi Joshi led their respective groups into the quarter-finals of the BWF Para-Badminton World Championships on Wednesday.

After he started his title defense in the SL3 event on Tuesday (standing at the bottom of the severe disability), top-seeded Bhagat easily beat England’s William Smith in his 21-5 21-3 run. However, Joshi defeated France’s Catherine and Nordine, which he beat 21-6, 21-4, topping the group for the day.

Bhagat, who won the SL3-SL4 men’s doubles with Manoj Sarkar, will face Japan’s Daisuke Fujiwara, a bronze medallist in his category of Paralympic mixed doubles, in the semi-finals.

As expected, Paralympic bronze medallist Sarkar and his two-time Nationals gold medallist Nitesh Kumar also made progress, taking on France’s Mathieu He Thomas and England’s William Smith respectively.

In the women’s event, Parul Parmar and Mandeep Kaur led their respective groups in her SL3 singles.
