IPL franchise owners rule the roost, buy all 6 teams at CSA T20 League auction: Report

The IPL franchise being the jackpot league for the BCCI so far, is now expanding its territories to other regions as well, and the regions that we are talking about here will be South Africa. Yes, you heard exactly right.

After scrapping the Mzansi Super League, Cricket South Africa is planning to start a new cricket league starting from January next year and which will be under private investment having the world’s best player. CSA (Cricket South Africa) recently announced that a six team tournament will begin from January, 2023. Based on a statement released by the CSA board, it stated,

The company is looking at a very attractive player salary bill per team that will rival other leagues around the world outside of the IPL

Based on the report published on the sports news channel, Cricbuzz, it stated about the owners of the IPL Franchise (29 parties) showing their expression of interest to buy these new teams. However, the five time IPL winners, Mumbai Indians, owned by Mr. Mukesh Ambani had shown interest to buy the team based out of Cape town which is the main city of South Africa, such as Mumbai in India.

Whereas for the Johannesburg team, the four time champions of the IPL team, Chennai Super Kings have shown interest. Thirdly, the Centurion based team in Pretoria, the Delhi Capitals team has shown interest whereas for the Durban team, it is the super Giants.

All the expressions of interest will see its finalization, by the end of this month which indeed is good news not only for Indian cricket but also an additive to the indian economy.

So why the sudden shift of gears?

The main reason behind such steps and speeding up the process is that the UAE League is starting from next year and the CSA League will face them. Surprisingly, an IPL franchise has already taken the lion’s share of the Abu Dhabi team. Jay Mehta – Shahrukh Khan based company is the one which has invested in a new franchise (Abu Dhabi) and is planning to buy another one again in the new league from CSA.

Next year the UAE League will compete with the CSA League and is where the world’s top players are going to participate. When it comes to the players auction, English player, Moeen Ali has expressed his interest in playing for the UAE, where there are many players like Faf du Plessis and Dwayne Bravo, who have shown interest in working towards the development for countries new league interest i.e., CSA league.
