The protege proved worthy as he finished the match in his mentor’s style. Ravindra Jadeja proved himself as he finished yesterday’s IPL final in Dhoni’s style with a six & a four. The rain-curtailed match of yesterday proved to be a surprise for all as the match had to go down to 15 overs & target for CSK was also revised to 172.
In the second innings, Sai Sudharshan (96) very closely missed out on a century, GT posted 214/4, as Wriddhiman Saha gave Sai full support with his own half-century. This was the 5th time CSK lifted the IPL trophy. The powerplay put up by Wriddhiman Saha & Shubhman Gill contributed to the humongous score by GT. Gill was dismissed quickly at 39 off 20 balls, Gill finished with 890 runs in this IPL which is still behind Kohli’s sensational 973 in the 2016 IPL.
Just 3 balls into the chase, the game was stopped due to rain & the game had to be delayed for more than 2 hours. The ground staff struggled to dry the field, and the match restarted at 12:10 AM with CSK needing to surpass a target of 172 runs. Gaikwad & Conway gave CSK a brilliant start by scoring 52 runs in the powerplay & putting up a partnership of 74 runs before Noor Ahmed took Gaikwad’s wicket in the 7th over, & gave GT a fighting chance again. Ajinkya Rahane put the game back in CSK’s hands with two sixes off Joshua Little.
The match headed for an explosive end with CSK needing 14 runs off of Mohit’s last over. The game almost went into GT’s hand before Jadeja decided otherwise and smashed a six & a four & took home the trophy.
