India Women vs England Women, 2nd ODI match report: Harmanpreet's Mammoth Ton Gives India Series Win

The Indian team led by Captain Harmanpreet Kaur posted a massive run in the 2nd ODI of the series against the England team at the Spitfire St Lawrence Ground, Canterbury. With a brilliant play by Harmanpreet, Harleen and Mandhana – India set a record for the England team to chase.

As tweeted by BBCI Women, leading the team by Harmanpreet and hammering 143 runs, she bagged the Player of the Match award with team India beating England by 88 runs in the 2nd ODI.
Initially, lndia starting its batting innings, looked like would be setting a big score through Shafali with her 2 fours, unfortunately she got out by the second over. Followed by Mandhana, who had in her first ODI scored 91(99), however in this second ODI she just managed 40 runs with Shafali before she got lbwby Ecclestone. However, she had in the process managed to complete 3000 ODI runs becoming the fastest Indian women to achieve this.

India’s number 3, Yastika managed to hold her ground before she too got out being bowled and caught by Dean with 26 runs. Then came the entry of Harmanpreet (no.4) and Harleen (no.5), whose partnership stood the ground. In the 37th over the Indian skipper Harmanpreet got her 18th ODI fifty whilst Harleen got her first ODI fifty. Though Harleen got out with 58 runs, Harmanpreet continued her game with Pooja who managed 18 runs.  Finally with the last wicket of Deepti, India got another 16 balls and India’s skipper Harmanpreet scored 143 runs from 111 balls WITH BOTH NOT OUT.

After the match Harmanpreet was quoted in the Hindustan Times as saying:


When we came here, that was the goal (to win the series). Was a crucial win today as everybody stepped up. I always enjoy leadership as I’m always in the game and it feels good. When I was batting, during the first 50 runs, it wasn’t all that easy. I just took my time and the partnership with Harleen was important. Just gave freedom to myself later as I was well set,.

Finally, after 23 years the Indian women’s team won a bilateral ODI against the England team.
