Rohit Sharma has once again come in full support of Virat Kohli. The skipper fed up with the regular gossip, and unnecessary statements from outsiders seems a bit miffed and concerned by the way things are taking place for the former captain.
In the second ODI match against England, Virat Kohli got out once again for mere 16 runs and it was not Virat in that position, it was in fact everybody who played the same way or the other. But the surprising part is, the news is only pointing once again at Virat.
Seemingly, fed up with the news around Rohit during the press conference was seen defending Virat again by saying,
“Kyun ho rahi hn yaar, matlab mjhe samajh me nhn aata bhai”
(“Why is there so much of discussion, I can’t understand this”)
Adding to it further, Rohit also reminded the media of how great batter is he, and has played so many matches for the team,
“He has played so many matches over such a long period of time. He is such a great batter, so he does not need reassurance”
The skipper was completely seen defending the former captain with strong use of words. Even English counterpart Jos Butler backed kohli by saying a big knock from a player like Virat will always be due, especially from a player with his calibre.
Since recent month’s many former players including the likes of Syed Kirmani, Sunil Gavaskar, kapil Dev have passed unnecessary judgements and statements against Virat. Kapil Dev has even proposed to why not the player is dropped, whereas the statement from kirmani was even more demoralizing stating as,
If you are not performing in a few innings, irrespective of however experienced you might be, the selection committee takes a call and says, ‘That’s it. Go back to domestic cricket, come back to form and then we will see if we can fit you back into the Indian team’. Don’t see why that can’t apply to Virat Kohli
Coming back to Rohit, he also said,
I know there’s been discussions going on but we have to understand we have seen for years, Players go through ups and downs, but quality never goes away, we have to keep that in mind. Look back at its past records, the number of hundreds, his average. He has the experience. You have slump even in personal life.
Powerful choice of words from the captain for his teammate, which assures how confidence the team has in Virat Kohli. Surely, Virat is a very very good player, but the only thing probably hampering his play is the too much outside noise. We’ll hope to listen to this part of the story in the future from Virat himself.
