India receives a rating boost up in ICC’s latest ranking after sweeping series 3-0 vs Zimbabwe

Following the 3-0 series sweep against Zimbabwe, Team India received a rating boost and reached in third place in ICC’s latest ranking with 111 rating points. The ICC released the latest ranking at late night on August 22 just after finishing India vs Zimbabwe’s third ODI. Pakistan is placed in fourth with 107 points, while England is on second with 119 points and New Zealand is leading in men’s ODI teams with 124 rating points.

 The ICC said in a statement, White-ball powerhouses India and Pakistan have been rewarded for recent series sweeps by making ground on the leading teams on the latest set ODI Team Rankings.

  The KL Rahul led team India defeated Zimbabwe by 13 runs in the third and last match of three matches ODI series on Monday. Indian opener batter Shubhman Gill powered India to sweep the host team in their own den in the first inning of the match. He completed his maiden ODI ton (130 off 97 balls) as he hit 15 fours and one six. Gill also bagged the player of the match award. India raised a 290-winning target for the host after.

All-rounder Sikandar Raza (115 of 95 balls) played a gigantic inning from Zimbabwe’s side while chasing, but he failed to take his team to victory as India finished them at 276/10 in 49.3 overs.

Indian skipper KL Rahul won the toss and decided to bat first. Following the astonishing knock of Gill India raised a total of 289/8 and 290 winning target before the host team. Shikhar Dhawan scored 40 off 68 balls, while Ishan Kishan completed his brilliant fifty (50) and team leader Rahul scored 30 off 46 balls. Brad Evans picked five wickets from the host side, while Victor Nyauchi and Luke Jogwe picked one wicket each.

Avesh Khan picked 3/66 of 9.3 ov, while Deepak Chahar, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav picked two wickets each of 10 ov. Shardul Thakur got one wicket. Chahar became the most expensive (75 runs of 10 ov) from India side during the second inning.

     Team India will next chance to improve its ranking in October when it will host South Africa for three ODI.
