ICC Announces Changes To Playing Conditions, Saliva Use Completely Banned

ICC after its two years of temporary measures to restrict the use of Saliva, has finally declared a permanent ban on it. The new law will come into effect from October 1st this year (2022) and also before the mega event of T20I World Cup. From the same month when the Ban will will come into effect, it will be the same month the World Cup will start i.e., October 16th, 2022.

The T20 World Cup, will be the first major tournament to impose a permanent ban on something like these which indeed is considered to  be appropriate for the welfare of the cricketers playing. Actually, the declaration of this decision came first in the month of March by the custodian of Cricket laws, the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), but it was then and there announced to come into action from October onwards.

Why the bowl doesn’t need to be shined anymore?

It’s because of the rising cases in COVID-19, and in order to lessen the spread of it, the shining of the bowl through Saliva has been permanently banned. If not COVID-19, otherwise also the shining doesn’t help.

In a statement released by ICC, it stated,

This prohibition has been in place for over two years in international cricket as a Covid-related temporary measure and it is considered appropriate for the ban to be made permanent,

  • When the batter is out, the next batter coming will have to take the strikers end regardless of whether the previous batter crossed each other prior of taking the catch
  • From now onwards, any ball which forces the batter to leave the pitch will be considered to be a No-ball.
