I want to emulate Lin Dan World Badminton Championship feat: Pramod Bhagat

Para shuttler Pramod Bhagat aims to emulate the legendary player Lin Dan by winning an unprecedented five Globalism Championships and finishing on the podium at Paris Games 2024.

The 34-year-old Indian won his fourth world title in men’s singles SL3 (Standing Pose/Lower Limb Weakness/Extreme) in Tokyo last month. With this title, he brought his total medal tally to 11 at the World Championships. His medal kart includes 6 Gold, 2 Silver, and 3 Bronze across all categories.

He won two gold medals in men’s doubles in Dortmund, Basel in 2013 and 2019, and two silver medals in Stock Mandeville doubles in Tokyo in 2015 and this year. He won a bronze medal in the men’s doubles in 2007 and in singles in 2007 and 2017.

“I want to become a five-time world champion in singles like Lin Dan. That is one of my goals, along with winning a gold medal at the 2024 Paralympic Games.”

Here, it is pertinent to write that two-time Olympic champion Lin Dan is the only player to win five world titles.
Bhagat, who has reached the finals in all competitions except the 2007 and 2017 World Championships said, the “wise move” of moving his home to Bangalore for training was a “wise move” to win his fourth world title.

In August, he transferred to PPBA (Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy) in Bangalore. As he was not doing well, he decided to change places and sought guidance from experienced coaches such as Vimal Kumar, DK Sen and Sagar Chopra. The star India opened up that took training in Bangalore for two months before the World Championships and the now results are showing my determination.

“Paralympic qualifiers start in the second week of February, so I plan to start training in the first week of January to show my brilliance,” Bhagat

The Bihar-born star badminton player has won three gold medals at the Spanish Para-Badminton International Championships, followed by two silver medals and one bronze medal at the Spanish Para-Badminton International Championships.
