Government Requests BCCI for India vs World XI Match For Independence Day Celebrations: Report

The Indian Government has requested BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) for organizing a championship between India and the rest of the world’s players(World XI) as a part of the first ever on the 75th Indian Independence occasion, news agency PTI reported.

            According to PTI, The sources said that the Ministry of Culture sent a proposal to BCCI officials for organizing championship between India vs World XI in order to Azadai ka Amrit Mahotsav Campaign. The Campaign is an initiative by the Indian Government to celebrate and commemorate 75years of country’s independence.

We have received a proposal from Culturer Ministy of India regarding a match between India vs World XI. Ministry’s idea behind it that if championship held then ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ campaign will be in global focus. Ministry is pretty sure that the whole world will understand real meaning of India’s Independence through the championship.” Sources told. “And also cricket match under campaign would showcase the importance of sports and pay homage to the popularity of cricket in India.” they added.

Sources told that ministry given examples to all department of government which has already organized an event as a part of campaign, then why BCCI is a-part of it.

According to report that BCCI has not given any positive response to Ministry yet. Sources of BCCI stated, “As for as services of international cricketers are big concerned of top governing body of cricket. The all top official of BCCI will be in Birmingham for the ICC annual conference (July 22-26), where they might speak to officials of other board to release a few of their players for the match in India. The whole process will take time.

“At present, it is not possible to go for India vs World XI with immediate effect under the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ campaign as Ministry wish.”
