Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the new coach of the Indian men’s cricket team.

BCCI Honorary Secretary Jay Shah announced on Tuesday (July 9) that former India opener Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the head coach of the Indian men’s national team. IndiaToday has confirmed that in May Gambhir will take over the team from Rahul Dravid. Who left the post after the end of the 2024 T20 World Cup.
The Cricket Advisory Committee which includes Mr. Ashok Malhotra, Mr. Jatin Paranjpe and Ms. Sulakshana Naik on Tuesday supported Mr. Gautam Gambhir to be the Director of the Indian team (seniors). The former India batsman will lead the Indian team in the upcoming away series against Sri Lanka, starting from July 27, 2024, which includes 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is.

Gautam Gambhir Set to Become India’s Head Coach

Gautam Gambhir mentored at the highest level for the first time in 2022. When he was associated with the Lucknow IPL team. In his two years at the helm of the franchise, LSG, coached by Andy Flower, reached the championship. Gambhir returned to KKR for the first time since leaving the franchise as a player in 2017. The franchise appointed the two-time title-winning captain as their mentor, and he made an immediate impact. Gambhir oversaw a successful campaign, leading KKR to their third IPL crown on May 26. The players, support staff, and owner Shah Rukh Khan acknowledged Gambhir’s role in providing clarity and direction to unite the Knight Riders for a common purpose.

The board also thanked Paras Mhambrey, T. Dilip and Vikram Rathour for their successful seasons in the Indian side.

“BCCI appreciates their contributions and wishes them all the best for the future,” BCCI said in a statement.
